IHG last week launched a revamped IHG One Rewards (fourth name change in a decade) with updated membership tiers and status benefits .
However, there is now confusion on how long the current tiers are valid. IHG extended member tiers by an additional year through February 2023 , but some have their tier valid until the end of 2022 and while others, myself included, until December 31, 2023.
Confusion?
The account implies that my Diamond status is valid through December 31, 2023, although tiers were extended by IHG only through February next year.
Also, the numbers for my nights and spending this year are nowhere near what would be required for Diamond requalification.
The IHG Android app indicates that Spire Elite is valid until March 31, 2023, although, in reality, it is when my Ambassador membership expires.
However, the Apple app correctly identifies the tier as Diamond elite but has the same expiry date as the Android.
Does this even matter?
Remember that the membership tier alone doesn’t dictate the benefits you receive at IHG’s luxury brands.
You also need to reach at least 40 nights this year to be able to choose the club lounge benefit option.
More About IHG One Rewards:
Conclusion
The Diamond status expiry could be tied to the Ambassador membership.
You have to keep in mind that unofficially, for years, you could extend Spire Elite (practically no benefits beyond 100% points bonus) merely by paying for the InterContinental membership (Ambassador).
I am eager to see if this is merely a program feature or a mistake that is fixed in the next few weeks.
