Reader Question: Where & How To Use Hilton Be My Guest Certificate?

A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a question about how to use and where Hilton’s Be My Guest certificate.

Question from the reader:

I have a question about be my guest certificates from Hilton….

The language is so confusing. I have a very similar certificate to this one and I just don’t know where it’s good for.

The reader then links to one of the previous articles on these certificates that we have published.

These certificates are very light on detail, and there are not many instructions on how to use them, and perhaps there is a reason for this (breakage – won’t be used).

Hilton usually issues these for various issues at their hotels, and there might sometimes be giveaways or raffles with Be My Guest cert or two as a prize.

First, you need to identify the brand under which it was issued. These certificates are brand specific and can only be redeemed for a stay at a hotel under the same brand as the certificate.

The reader noted (on a subsequent message) that this was issued for an issue at a Hilton hotel.

The certificate states:

Redeem this certificate for one night of complimentary lodging (standard room and tax only) at any Hilton Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

The issue for certificates issued under the Hilton brand is that all Hilton-affiliated hotels are part of Hilton Hotels & Resorts, right?

To be safe, however, you can be 100% sure that you can use it for one night’s stay at any Hilton-branded hotel worldwide.

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Choose Hilton Hotel where you would like to stay.

2. Identify what the standard room at that hotel is.

3. Book the most expensive rate (must be flexible) that is not prepaid.

4. Hand in the certificate at the time of checking in.

5. Enjoy!

How to identify a standard room?

Hilton doesn’t make it too easy to find out what is the standard room at any hotel.

You can find it out by choosing an award stay first and then booking the room that shows as a “Standard Room Rewards.”

Remember to book the paid rate (no need to book Honors Discount one).

Conclusion

Some are hesitant to book costly rates and then just hand the certificate at check-in, but it is this easy.

The hotel charges the one night with taxes, regardless of the amount, back to Hilton, that in turn charges the rate back to the offending property.

The best part is that you will likely receive points for the rate charges back to Hilton. At least, I always have.
